Florida Seals News Release
[KISSIMMEE, Fla.]-The game was not the prettiest hockey game in history, but the Seals pulled out a victory over Pee Dee Friday night. Craig Miller netted four goals and John Gurskis added a hat trick.
Offense was the key word on the ice Friday night. The Seals scored a season high 10 goals and for the second time this season had two players record a hat trick in the same game.
Pee Dee jumped out to the lead 3:54 into the contest when Edan Welch put the puck into an open net. Seals starting goaltender Nick Niedert misplayed the puck allowing the Cyclones to get the early lead. The Seals fought back tying the game, taking the lead and adding insurance goals throughout the first period.
Bret Peppler scored his second goal as a member of the Seals after Miller's first goal and before Miller finished his hat trick. The Cyclones cut the lead down to two goals when Eric Naud put a rebound home with just three seconds showing on the first period clock.
Head Coach Tommy Stewart inserted Terry Denike in the Seals net to begin the second period. The usual dependable Denike had a tough period allowing four goals, including Chris Murphy's goal just 27-seconds into the middle frame.
With the game down to only a one goal differential John Gurskis took things into his own hands. Gurskis who had not scored in 17 games lit the lamp three times to get the natural hat trick. It was the second time this season the Brockton, Mass. native scored three goals in a game.
Once again Pee Dee closed the gap to one goal by the end of the second period. The Seals had a whole different attitude in the third period and didn't allow Pee Dee to score again. For good measure the Seals added three insurance goals to seal the victory.
Saturday the Seals end their regular season against their rivals from Jacksonville. It is "Fan Appreciation Night" at the Silver Spurs Arena. Lots of prizes will be given out to all the great Seals fans thanking them for their support during the first season in Osceola County. The puck drops at 7:35 pm.
