Florida Seals News Release
[Kissimmee, Fla.] -The Seals fought hard, shot the puck a lot, but still weren't able to find a way to win in overtime. Jacksonville pulled out the extra session victory 4-3 Saturday night at the Silver Spurs Arena.
A night after being shutout by Knoxville, the Seals were quick to make sure that would not happen again. Jacksonville goalie Pat Berrigan faced 23 shots in the opening frame, stopping all but one.
In overtime, where the Seals have yet to win in four chances, Barracudas forward Joel Petkoff ended the game just 54-seconds into the extra session. The goal came as Jacksonville got a two-on-one break after the Seals went deep into the offensive zone.
Things looked good early for the home team as the Seals got on the board first for only the fourth time this season. Steve Zoryk scored his first of two goals late in the first on a shorthanded breakaway.
The Florida breakdown came in the early stages of the second period. Jacksonville scored two goals within four minutes when Luke Pelham netted a power play goal and Ron Miller scored with the teams at full strength. The Seals' Zoryk tied the game up with a laser beam shot late in the second period forcing an exciting third period.
The teams grew more aggressive as the third period started. The hits were frequent and the crowd roared in appreciation. Jacksonville's Geoff Rollins, playing in his first game of the season, quieted the crowd with a rebound goal at the 7:43 mark.
The Seals continued to fight and work the puck around the Barracudas zone in the latter stages of regulation. Finally at the 15:04 mark Craig Miller scored his first goal of the season as he pushed the puck through the smallest hole possible and into the net.
In the loss the Seals set season high in a couple of shots on goal categories. Their first period output of 23 and total of 53 set a new season high mark. The two team total of 101 shots set a Southern Professional Hockey League action.
The Seals will look to stop their five game non-win streak tomorrow night against Jacksonville. Saturday night the teams will again battle on the ice. Puck drops at 7:35 pm at the Silver Spurs Arena.
