Florida Seals News Release
[COLUMBUS, Ga.]-The Seals once again found out why Columbus is the hottest team in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). In the final game of the three game set, the Snakes beat the Seals 7-2.
Tom McMonagle was the story as he began to write it early. Just 15 seconds into the contest the Columbus (16-9-3) Assistant Captain scored his 15th goal of the season. The Seals responded firing shots on goalie Ryan Senft, trying to get the goose egg off the scoreboard. Like the last two games Senft stood on his head for the most part.
McMonagle finished his pure hat trick near the middle of the first period. His second goal of the night came at the 11:04 mark from a Tim Green pass. He finished the pure hat trick on a rebound power play goal sending the Cottonmouths to the locker room with a 3-0 first period lead.
The Seals (13-11-5) came to life early in the second period cutting the deficit to one. Art Mnatsakanov, playing forward for the second time this season, lit the lamp for the fourth time this season. Only two minutes later Lawne Snyder fired a slap shot from the point on the power play to get the Seals back in the game.
Columbus would again extend their lead to three goals before the mid way point. Craig Stahl worked hard to stuff the puck into the Seals net. McMonagle continued his big night adding his forth goal just before the game's midway point.
The third period was slow paced and quite choppy. Ryan Rutz would add two goals and then the gloves came off. With the game basically decided the teams' tough guys each took the gloves off and fought their way to the end.
Florida enjoys six days off before starting a long home stand. The Seals host three games next week on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The games can be seen at www.livesportsnetwork.com/sphl.
