Seager's Jack Is Perfect Night Cap for Blaze

Bakersfield Blaze News Release

So much for that supposed Bakersfield Blaze hangover.

One day after clinching the second half North Division title in San Jose, the Blaze (76-61) went right back to work by beating the Stockton Ports in dramatic fashion on Friday night.

Justin Seager's 2-run bomb in the top of the eighth inning off of Corey Miller gave the Blaze their only lead of the night as they dropped the Ports 7-6.

Bakersfield trailed 1-0, 5-1, and 6-5 before Seager went deep.

Both starting pitchers, Zack Littell and Casey Meisner, struggled and neither lasted long enough to be eligible for a win.

Littell pitched just 4.2 innings as the right-hander surrendered six runs (5 ER) on seven hits, while striking out five batters, and walking three.

Meisner managed to go 3.1 innings, but he gave up five runs on just four hits.

The Blaze stuck to their patient approach at the plate and the quality swings were consistent all evening.

Jordan Cowan was 3-5 with a run driven in and run scored at the top of the lineup, while Seager was just as good on the other end.

Seager socked his 13th home run of the year and was 2-3 with two runs in the affair.

Rafael Pineda earned his first victory with the Blaze as he struck out five batters in just 2.1 innings of relief work.

Kody Kerski was able to survive a roller coaster ninth inning to pick up his second save in as many tries.

The reliever walked Jose Brizuela and saw Chris Iriat reach first base after a fielding error by Austin Wilson in right field. Kerski was able to strike out Sandber Pimentel and Justin Higley before he retired Argenis Raga on a slow comebacker.
