MATCH PREVIEW:

The home schedule kicks off with SD Loyal hosting Las Vegas Lights FC in a Week 5 match. Manager Landon Donovan's team comes into the home opener after starting the season with four straight losses on the road, not the start SD Loyal was hoping for in 2021. The season started with key injuries to the back line and being forced to shuffle players in that area of the starting XI. Donovan said he expects his team to change things, starting at Torero Stadium with a designated percentage of the stands open to Season Ticket Members.

"Our guys are excited to finally get to play a game at home," said Donovan, who will be serving a one game suspension after being shown a red card last week against Louisville City FC. "Not only has it been four games on the road now but also a number of games last year without fans. To actually have fans in the stadium will help. We have to put Vegas under a lot of pressure and get a result. We need a result."

The last home match in front of fans was against Las Vegas Lights FC, a 1-1 draw to start SD Loyal's competitive history.

It can make history again Saturday as it vies for its first three points in the team's second ever season.

Las Vegas comes into the match also winless after three games. It is coming off a 5-1 loss to Phoenix Rising. Las Vegas struggled defensively against Phoenix as it not only allowed a flurry of goals but also 41 shots, 28 of those coming from inside the penalty area. That left new goalkeeper Alex Rando exposed. He made 15 saves. Las Vegas has a new coach in San Diego native, Steve Cherundolo. The former U.S. National Team player and teammate of Landon Donovan was brought in after Major League Soccer side LAFC took over Las Vegas Lights soccer operations.
