SD Loyal Signs Trio of Defensive Players

San Diego, CA - San Diego Loyal Soccer Club (SD Loyal) announced today the signing of three defenders - Elijah Martin, Suleiman Samura and Grant Stoneman, pending league and federation approval. The players will join the Club for its inaugural USL Championship season in 2020. The announcement comes ahead of the team's 2020 Inaugural Kit Reveal Party, where attendees will be the first to see home and away uniforms and the entire Team 1 roster, on Thursday, Feb. 13.

"When building the roster, we wanted a strong defensive core that would allow our attacking players to do what they do best," said Landon Donovan, EVP of Soccer Operations and First Team Manager. "Elijah, Suleiman and Grant further build the defense and will add to the team chemistry on and off the field."

Martin made his way through the youth national ranks before joining the La Galaxy II for two seasons. The Defender had stints at Fresno FC U23s, Fresno Fuego and, most recently, Fresno Football Club. Samura penned his first pro-contract with Fresno Football Club in 2019 after appearances with Fresno FC U-23s and Laredo Heat SC. Stoneman joins SD Loyal after excelling on the field with the New York Ramblers, Lansing United, USL League Two, Michigan Bucks and Chicago FC. The Defender most recently played for Lansing Ignite FC under former Head Coach Nate Miller who is now one of SD Loyal's assistant coaches under Landon Donovan.
