September 22, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL) - San Diego Loyal News Release

SD Loyal heads north to face Group B rival LA Galaxy II as both vie for a post season spot. Match to be televised locally on the Fox 5 San Diego app and air channel.

WHAT: USL Championship match between SD Loyal and LA Galaxy II in a battle between second and third place teams.

WHO: - SD Loyal - LA Galaxy II

WHEN: Wednesday, Sept. 23 7 p.m. PT

WHERE: Dignity Health Sports Park 18400 S Avalon Blvd Carson, CA 90746

MATCH PREVIEW: The final stretch of the USL Championship season is here and SD Loyal is in a position to control its own path into the playoffs. Coach Landon Donovan's team comes into this match in second place with a 6-4-4 record and 22 points, one ahead of LA Galaxy II and Orange County SC. A win against "Los Dos" sets up SD Loyal with a chance to earn a post season berth in its final regular season match against Phoenix Rising FC Sept. 30. But first things first. SD Loyal has to travel to Carson to face a LA Galaxy team that has been somewhat inconsistent but has managed to earn a win every other game since late August. It was been enough to keep it in contention for a post season spot. The top two teams in the Group get in.

SD Loyal has won its last three matches, the latest, a thriller at Phoenix Rising Fc in which it took a 3-0 lead with a hat trick by Rubio Rubin. The home side made it a close match in the second half but SD Loyal managed to hold on for the win. SD Loyal has nearly used the same lineup during its last three games. Against LA Galaxy II, it will be missing defender Grant Stoneman as he is slated to serve a red card suspension.

This is a rescheduled match. The original date was set for July 29 but it was postponed because members of LA Galaxy tested positive for COVID-19 within the weekly testing protocols.
