SD Loyal Faces Albion San Diego in Second Round of U.S. Open Cup Tomorrow

SD Loyal is off to a fast start in its 2023 USL Championship campaign and will now begin its quest in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Head Coach Nate Miller's club hosts Albion San Diego of the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) in the Second Round of the historic tournament. The match will take place atop the SDSU Sports Deck in SD Loyal's second time competing in the prestigious tournament that pairs clubs from all levels of the U.S. Soccer pyramid into a single elimination tournament. SD Loyal reached the Third Round of the cup in 2022 after defeating Albion 2-1 with goals by Evan Conway and a late game-winner from Taylor Crull. SD Loyal went on to face LA Galaxy of Major League Soccer where it played to a 1-0 loss in Carson, Calif. It was a milestone run for SD Loyal under former Head Coach and now full-time Executive Vice President of Soccer Operations Landon Donovan. Despite the loss, it was a memorable night for SD Loyal as the club caught regional and national attention as a top USL Championship team in the tournament. Donovan led his team to where he left a legacy as a player, winning several MLS Cups with the Galaxy. SD Loyal will now try to create more milestones in its second time in the tournament.
