Scranton/Wilkes-Barre added to 2005 expansion teams

December 15, 2004 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Indianapolis, IN. Joe Newman, ABA co-Founder, today announced another team in the fast-growing professional basketball league scheduled to begin play in 2005.

According to Newman, "We are very pleased to add this NE PA to the league; it fits beautifully into our divisional play and the ownership group is very well-versed in sports and should do very well."

The team will be owned by Northeast PA Professional Basketball Club, LLC., a company owned by William Fleming, Sr. of Clarks Summit, PA. Mr. Fleming is the owner of TracerCode, one of the nation's leading sources of sports memorabilia.

Fleming stated, "I have long been a fan of the ABA and count many of the original ABA/NBA superstars as close friends and associates; we plan to do some interesting things to take advantage of these relationships and bring some genuine sports excitement to the area. Our business is promotion and we are confident that we'll make Scranton/Wilkes-Barre very proud."

The team plans to hold a major press conference in January to announce plans including venue, name, management, personnel and other things.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
