Rochester Knighthawks News Release
(Rochester, August 5)... Forward Scott Evans is the subject of the fifth installment of the Rochester Knighthawks' "Preseason Player Profiles." Evans gives fans an update on his comeback and rehabilitation efforts. The 28 year old was injured last year in training camp and missed the entire 2009 National Lacrosse League season.
In his Knighthawks career, the former first-round pick has played in 80 games over five seasons and is tied for fourth place on the all-time goals (156) and points list (322). In 2008, Evans played in the NLL All-Star Game and in 2007 he won his first Champion's Cup. Further, he won the Mann Cup with the Peterborough Lakers in 2004, 2006 and 2007.
Here is what the Peterborough, Ontario, native had to say about the summer and his lacrosse career.
1) You were injured in training camp last year and missed the entire season. How close are you to playing lacrosse again?
"I'm hoping 2-3 weeks, in time for the Brampton series if the boys can pull out a big win against Six Nations."
2) How tough has rehab been?
"A lot tougher on my girlfriend Karen, then on me, but it has been tough. Kevin Hickey and the team at Total Physiotherapy have been great and have gotten me close to playing a lot quicker than I expected."
3) You filled in on radio and TV broadcasts last season. Is broadcasting in your future plans after your playing career is over?
"I would like to stay involved in lacrosse after my playing days are over. Hopefully, that isn't for a while, but I can see coaching or broadcasting in my future."
4) What do you miss the most about playing?
"Road trips with the boys."
5) How anxious are you to start playing again?
"Mentally ready to go, but I have to consider my future in this sport even though watching from the sidelines is absolutely killing me."
6) You have had a lot of time to watch lacrosse in the past year. How has your brother Shawn taken his game to the next level?
"No, actually I haven't had a lot of time to watch lacrosse. I have been working in Perth, Ontario, and helping coach a midget lacrosse team to a provincial championship. But, I have been to a couple games and I have seen Shawny mature as a player and person and he has been key in leading the Lakers into the playoffs. But I will be back soon, so I can teach him a thing or two more."
7) What has been your most memorable lacrosse moment?
"Winning my first major championship in 2004 with the Peterborough Lakers and then following it up with an NLL championship with the Rochester Knighthawks."
8) What do you enjoy the most about playing in Rochester?
"I like being around the guys and the family-like atmosphere in the dressing room and the amazing fans that come out each week."
9) Why is lacrosse the best sport?
"The competition."
10) A lot of lacrosse players have full-time jobs. How do you make your living away from lacrosse?
"I make my living outside of lacrosse as a Linesman for Hydro One and love what I do."
11) You are a member of the Peterborough Lakers in the summer. What are their chances of winning the Mann Cup?
"I think our chances are pretty good. We have a long, tough road to get there up against Six Nations and Brampton, who are two great teams. All I can tell you is it's going to be a battle to win it, but that's why we play this great game."
The sixth installment of the profiles is slated for Wednesday, August 19th and will feature forward Jamie Rooney. Every two weeks, from June to October, the Knighthawks will highlight a different player on knighthawks.net.
