San Antonio Scorpions News Release

SAN ANTONIO, TX - Nearly 200 San Antonio youth have registered for this weekend's KICK CANCER SOCCER CAMP, which will be held from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m., Saturday - Sunday, December 14-15 on Field #14 at the STAR Soccer Complex, at 5103 David Edwards Drive, adjacent to Morgan's Wonderland and Toyota Field, home of the San Antonio Scorpions.

The KICK CANCER SOCCER CAMP is a two-day camp with a purpose, and its mission is to bring together soccer and school communities to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.

Top area professional and college players and coaches, from the San Antonio Scorpions and Trinity University, will donate their time to teach and coach youth while also supporting the fight against childhood cancer. Camp fees are $55.00 for youth ages 5-18 and $25 for children ages 2-4. There is still room to accommodate additional registrants. To register, visit www.cccfund.org . Registration will also be accepted at the camp, beginning at 3 p.m., on Saturday. All camp proceeds support the Curing Children's Cancer Fund.

San Antonio's KICK CANCER SOCCER CAMP was initiated this year in honor of Nicolas "Nico" Ramirez Castro, who died last year of cancer at age 11. His parents, Lourdes Castro and Jorge Ramirez, joined with Glenn Davis, who founded KICK CANCER SOCCER CAMP after a career as a sports broadcaster and former pro soccer player for the Houston Dynamo. Together with the Scorpions, the event was scheduled and planned to take place this weekend.

"Nico loved soccer and he had a natural talent for the sport," said Lourdes Castro Ramirez. "We are excited about this year's inaugural camp in San Antonio, and we look forward to seeing other young soccer players learning to improve their skills this weekend."
