Scorpions look to keep winning ways at home

Off to best start since 2000, New Mexico hosts Lubbock, Bossier-Shreveport this weekend   ALBUQUERQUE – The New Mexico Scorpions look to start the month of December in the same manner that they finished November – with a victory at Tingley Coliseum – tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 3 when they face the Lubbock Cotton Kings for the first time this season.  Faceoff is 7:05 p.m.  The Scorpions (11-4-1) are one point behind the Wichita Thunder for first place in the Central Hockey League's Northwest Division and the entire circuit.   The Scorpions were 6-2-2 last season against the Cotton Kings, who return just three players from last year's team.  New Mexico completes their five-game homestand on Saturday, Dec. 4 as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs make their only visit of the season to Tingley Coliseum.  Faceoff for that game is also 7:05 p.m.     Both games will be broadcast on SportsRadio 610 The Sports Animal and on the Internet at www.scorpionshockey.com and www.broadcastmonsters.com beginning at 6:50 p.m. with the Voice of the Scorpions Mike Sheehan.   This weekend is Toys for Tots Weekend.  Fans bringing a new, unwrapped toy benefiting Toys for Tots to either game this weekend will receive a free ticket for the Scorpions game on December 28 against Lubbock.    In addition, the Scorpions Wives and Girlfriends will be running a raffle at both games to raise money to buy toys for Albuquerque-area youngsters through various area children's hospitals and charities.  The Scorpions and the Wives and Girlfriends want to thank everybody for their support in last week's raffle that raised over $2,500 for the All Faiths Receiving Home and PB&J.  The initial goal was $1500 over three games, so thanks a lot Albuquerque!   Saturday's game will also be Military Night.  All personnel can get grandstand tickets for $6 with a valid military I.D.  The Scorpions will also be wearing special Air Force jerseys that will be auctioned after the game in the Jockey Club at the Downs.  The New Mexico Blue Star Mothers will be conducting another drive collecting items to send to soldiers in Iraq.  There will be a variety of military events during Saturday's game, including a tribute to soldiers who have given their lives to our country in Iraq.   Tickets for all Scorpions regular season home games are available at the Scorpions Team Store, located at 6300 San Mateo NE at the corner of San Mateo and Academy in the Far North Shopping Center, and any TicketMaster outlet.  Single-game tickets for the 2004-2005 CHL season start at $11!    Ten-game packages and Scorpions voucher books are available starting at $110.  Full season ticket packages are also on sale and include a free entry into the Scorps Rewards prize pool.  A full list of prizes is available at www.scorpionshockey.com.  For more information, call the Scorpions office at (505) 881-PUCK (7825).
