Scorpions Gearing Up for the Summer
May 3, 2007 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Yuma Scorpions News Release
The 2007 season is fast approaching and I wanted to share my excitement, some insight on the team, and my wish that you will be able to join us out at Desert Sun Stadium this summer as we gun for our first Golden Baseball League Championship.
This season will by my 30th year since starting my professional baseball career with the Lethbridge Dodgers in the Pioneer League in the summer of 1978. I've played in a lot of towns in the minor leagues, and for 11 seasons when I was fortunate enough to be in a big league uniform, and I am thrilled to be here in Yuma. I'm not only impressed with the booming town and all the growth, but it's very clear that this is a baseball town with a special passion for our national pastime that is imbedded in your civic culture. It comes across with the business support, the interested media, and most importantly from the fans. That doesn't happen in many places -- I've really only witnessed it it Boston and Chicago in the major leagues and Winnipeg and San Antonio in the minor leagues, and now here in Yuma. It's an incredible feeling for a member of a professional ball club.
As for the Scorpions this year, we've been working hard on building a roster that will dominate the Golden Baseball League. Not an easy task considering the reputation this league has built by moving almost 50 players in just two years to major league organizations. You will see a number of familiar faces back with the Scorpions, a number of new local players that have outstanding skills and deserve a shot, but also some incredible talent that have worn major league uniforms or played in top foreign professional leagues in places like Korea, Cuba, Venezuela and elsewhere. All of them playing their hearts out for Yuma on a daily basis to showcase their skills and hopefully advance their careers.
The Scorpions front office staff has done a fine job in getting ready for the season, but I want to lend my efforts to help fill the stadium for what is going to be a great summer of professional baseball. There is nothing like a packed home town crowd rocking the house to inspire the team. Many of you have already made your plans and secured your seats for the upcoming season, but if not, please contact the Yuma Scorpions at 928-257-4700 and reserve your tickets? There are ticket plans to fit every desire from full-season tickets, to mini-plans, to Fiesta packs of ten tickets that can be used anytime to enjoy the baseball, family entertainment, and great fun of a Scorpion's game.
You can also purchase your tickets online at www.yumascorpions.com. Once you've bought your tickets, just send me back an email to mmarshal@goldenbaseball.com and I'll have an autographed ball and a Scorpions T-Shirt ready for you at the Scorpions office.
Looking forward to seeing you this summer!
Best Regards,
Mike Marshall
