[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-Corpus Christi snapped their five-game losing streak with a 6-3 win over New Mexico on Wednesday night. It was the first time the IceRays won in five tries at the Santa Ana Star Center.
Corpus Christi used their special teams to get a three goal lead after one period. Ryan Bennett and Mike Zbriger each scored on the power play to give the IceRays an early lead. Late in the first frame Chris Mei scored a shorthanded goal at the 19:10 mark that deflected off a Scorps defenseman.
The Scorpions got on the board when Jamie Herrington slid the puck past goalie Kris Tebbs. Mitch Stephens made a great move to get free and clear and scored his fourth goal of the season.
Corpus Christi pushed their lead back to two late in the second period. Bob Rapoza collected his own rebound and notched his first goal of the season.
The IceRays took control of the game early in the third period. Zbriger scored for the second time in the game at the 2:10 mark. Mark Tobin gave his team a four-goal lead 8:10 in the third period. Craig Macdonald added a late goal to get the Scorpions to within three.
