LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Odessa Jackalopes 5-2 Thursday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks now have lost two straight games, and fall to 5-4 (10pts) on the season.
Laredo and Odessa would be tied 2-2 entering the third period, where the Jackalopes would score three goals and hand the Bucks the loss.
Odessa took the lead for good at 3-2 6:17 into the final period, when Colin Circelli scored on a power-play. The goal was Odessa's second power-play of the game.
The Jackalopes would make it 4-2 9:51 into the third when Phillippe Plante streaked down the left side of the ice and sent a shot short-side past Bucks goaltender Sebastien Centomo.
Odessa (5-2-1, 11pts) would cap the scoring at 5-2 with 6:46 left in the third period, when Jeff Pierce took a pass off of a face off and went down the ice uncovered and scored past Centomo.
Centomo (4-3) allowed a season-high five goals, in stopping 30 shots.
Jackalopes goaltender Juha Toivonen (4-2) stopped 24 of 26 Bucks shots in the win.
The Bucks (3-2 at home) failed to score first in the game for just the second time this season, as they turned the puck over, which led to Odessa taking a 1-0 lead 11:15 into the period. The âJacks had a three-on-none break in the Bucks end, Jonathan Labelle picked up his second goal of the season, as he took a pass from Jeff Pierce right in front of Sebastien Centomo, and poked the puck past Centomo's left pad.
The Bucks came out a bit slow in the first period, as they didn't register their first shot until the 11 minute mark, and were outshot 10-5 through the first 20 minutes.
Laredo came out and scored two straight goals to open the second period, to take a 2-1 lead.
Jeff Bes tied the score at one apiece when he skated down the left side of the ice and let a slap shot fly from the circle past Jackalopes goaltender Juha Toivonen. The strike was Bes' third of the year. Bes has picked up a point in eight out of nine games this season, to move into third place on the CHL scoring list.
Laredo took a 2-1 lead 13:26 into the second period, as Alex Goupil sent a wrist shot from the top of the right circle on the power-play past Toivonen. Serge Dube (7) and Adam Rivet (3) picked up assists on Goupil's seventh goal of the season.
The Bucks killed off a 41 second five-on-three power-play for Odessa, with a little over four minutes left.
Odessa would tie the game at 2-2 with 2:49 left in the period, when they struck for a power-play goal.
Dominic Leveille took a feed from Kory Karlander at the left circle, and swooped in to the crease to sneak a shot past Centomo. It was Leveille's fifth goal of the season.
The Bucks were outshot for the second straight period, this time by a count of 15-12.
Laredo was outshot 35-26 in the defeat.
