Scorpions Captain Adrian Cann Ready to Return to the Pitch

San Antonio Scorpions News Release
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Thursday, April 30, 2015) - Team captain Adrian Cann has been re-signed, medically cleared to play, and will travel with the club for this weekend's match in Jacksonville, team President/GM Howard Cornfield and Head Coach Alen Marcina announced today. The Scorpions play the expansion Armada Saturday, May 2, at 6:30pm in a game that will be broadcast live in San Antonio on MeTV/KSAT digital channel 12.2.
"The return of Adrian Cann - our captain - is massive on and off the field," said Marcina. "His commanding presence at the heart of our defense and composed demeanor make him a natural leader who raises the level of play for the entire team. With his consistent and stern defensive displays, he is a fan favorite and is instrumental to the success of our organization."
In the 32' of last November's Championship Semifinal against the New York Cosmos, Cann landed awkwardly on a non-contact play and was immediately substituted out of the match with what was later determined to be a tear of his left patella tendon. Cann had surgery two days later and worked diligently all offseason to get back onto the pitch in full health.
"It feels good to be back on the field with the rest of the guys," said Cann. "We've got a good group this year and moving forward, we expect to get results and I'm here to contribute."
With Cann as captain of the defense last year, the Scorpions set a modern NASL record for the fewest goals allowed over the course of a full regular season with only 24 conceded. In 2014, the 6'3" center back started 20 matches, compiled 1,742 minutes played, was named to the NASL's team of the week five times, and scored a very key goal in the regular season finale against the New York Cosmos. In the final seconds of second half stoppage time, Cann knocked in a loose ball in the box that handed the Scorpions the win and the NASL Fall Season championship.
The Scorpions 2015 roster now stands at 24 players with the addition of Cann:
GK - Sattler, Kempin, Cardone
D - DeRoux, James, Zea, Attakora, Abdul-Salaam, Rusin, Cann
M - Castillo, Forbes, Soto, Garcia, Cruz, Chavez, Tsiskaridze, Gibson, Nane
F - Elizondo, Hassli, Palomeque, Cummings, Dike
The 2015 San Antonio Scorpions season is presented by deeproot Funds. The Scorpions play their next home match on May 9 at Toyota Field against the Carolina RailHawks. For information on Scorpions season tickets, call 210-495-8686 or visit SAScorpions.com.
