Scorpions add two young forwards

August 10, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]- The New Mexico Scorpions, proud member of the Central Hockey League (CHL), have added another pair of young and talented skaters to the team's growing roster for the coming 2006-07 season. Head Coach Ray Edwards has confirmed the signings of wingers David Carpentier (car-pun-tear) and Lance Herauf (hair-off).

Carpentier enters his second full season as a pro. Having appeared in 62 games with the Fort Wayne Komets in the United Hockey League (UHL) last season. The Faribault, Minn. native tallied 26 points (12G, 14A) and amassed 107 penalty minutes in the regular season and added three points in five playoff games.

"We are bringing in a great skater with David. This is a player who will come to camp in great shape and his speed will be a great asset for the Scorpions," said Edwards. "Being a second year pro we really look for him to elevate his game this year and become more than just a role player."

When Carpentier arrives in New Mexico he will be reunited with a familiar face as the 6-foot forward spent last season in the same locker room as Scorpions' veteran defender Rob Guinn who Edwards signed away from Fort Wayne earlier this off-season.

"I am excited to see a new part of the country," said Carpentier. "Rob really told me great things about the organization and Coach Edwards. After I did my own research I knew the Scorpions would be a great place for me to become a better hockey player."

Herauf is the fifth rookie to join the Scorpions this season. The Balgonie, Sask. native spent last season at the University of Regina after three seasons with the Yorkton Terriers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

Over the past four seasons, Herauf has averaged nearly a point a game. In three years with the Terriers, the 5'9", 167-pound left wing appeared in 175 games and scored 177 points (77G, 100A).

"Lance is in the same boat as the rest of our first year players," said Edwards. "They all have great potential and they will try and carry over their success as amateurs to the pro game. We hope their learning curve is quick and efficient as they make the transition."

The Scorpions will christen the new state-of-the-art Santa Ana Star Center on Friday, October 27 when they face the Arizona Sundogs at 7:35 p.m. This season the Scorpions feature 22 weekend home games.
