Yuma Scorpions News Release
The Yuma Scorpions continue to add some big names to their 2010 Golden Baseball League roster.
A week after pulling a blockbuster six player trade with the Laredo Broncos of the United League the Scorpions have signed major league veteran pitcher Bill Pulsipher and former two time Northern League All-Star infielder Carlos Duncan.
The 6'3" lefthander put in six full seasons in the major leagues with the New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers (2 seasons), Arizona Diamondbacks, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals. He has appeared in 106 major league games including 42 starts with a career 13-19 record and 5.15 ERA.
His minor league totals, mostly at the AAA level, include a record of 86-82 and an ERA of 3.94. Pulsipher will also act as the Scorpions pitching coach.
"Any time you can sign a veteran with significant major league time it certainly enhances your ball club", said Scorpions vice-president, baseball operations Peter Young. "Bill had an excellent career in both the big leagues and AAA ball and should have an incredible influence on the entire pitching staff".
Duncan was the first player ever signed by Young for the 2005 Calgary Vipers and was named to the Northern League All-Star team that season. In 2007 he added to his honors hitting.350 for Calgary with 13 home runs and 82 RBI. That season he was not only named to the NL All-Star team but was also chosen by Baseball America as an All-Star on its All-Independent League team. "Carlos and I have a five year history", added Young. "He's coming off a 13 home run season in Edmonton and will definitely add some power to the lineup".
The Scorpions are expected to add at least two more former major leaguers to their roster in the new week.
Field Manager Darryl Brinkley will host a Scorpions Free Agent camps in Yuma in early May and will attend the combined Northern League-GBL Free Agent weekend in Scottsdale in early April.
