
Schreffler's Inside-The-Parker Helps Threshers Snap Skid

CLEARWATER, FL - An inside-the-park home run by Troy Schreffler gave the Clearwater Threshers (76-48, 32-27) the lead for good, holding on for a 3-2 win over the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (65-60, 31-28) on Sunday afternoon at BayCare Ballpark. The Threshers head to Palm Beach to face the Cardinals in their final regular season series of 2023.
Fort Myers pulled off a double steal with Maddux Houghton taking home plate for the first run of the game in the third inning. Jared Thomas was hit by a pitch from Mighty Mussels starter Ben Ethridge to lead off the fifth inning. Troy Schreffler followed with an inside-the-park homer to right-centerfield that gave the Threshers a two-run lead. Trent Farquhar walked and moved to second on a single by Raylin Heredia. Both moved up a base on a balk from Ethridge before Farquhar scored on a sacrifice fly that extended the advantage to 3-1.
The Mighty Mussels cut the deficit in half with a two-out RBI single in the eighth inning. They put the tying run on second in the ninth, but Josh Bortka retired the final three batters in order after the leadoff single to seal the 3-2 win for the Threshers.
Ezequiel Ventura (1-1) allowed one run on two hits in 6.0 innings of work with one walk and four strikeouts to earn the win. Hunter Loyd tossed 1.0 scoreless and hitless frame with one walk and one strikeout. Daniel Harper allowed one run on one hit, one walk, and one strikeout in 1.0 inning. Bortka earned his second save of the year with a shutout ninth inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.
