Schmaltz, Milano, Tiffels, Montour, and Tirone Earn USHL Weekly Honors

Chicago, IL - The United States Hockey League today announced the CCM and Reebok player awards for the 28th week of the 2013-14 USHL regular season.

Winners include Nick Schmaltz of the Green Bay Gamblers, Sonny Milano of Team USA, and Frederik Tiffels of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, recognized as co-recipients of CCM Forward of the Week; Brandon Montour of the Waterloo Black Hawks, selected as CCM Defenseman of the Week; and Danny Tirone of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, named Reebok Goaltender of the Week.

Nick Schmaltz, F, Green Bay Gamblers: The Verona, Wisconsin native had a monster week, totaling six points (3g, 3a) over three games played. On Friday night against the Lincoln Stars, he potted a pair of goals, including the game-winner, and dished out an assist in a 4-3 victory. He also tied a team high plus-three on-ice rating. His hot hand continued on Saturday as he again netted the game-winner, his fourth goal in three games, along with an assist in a 4-1 win over Team USA's Under-17 squad. The 18-year-old rounded out his weekend by handing out an assist on Sunday in a 4-3 loss to the Waterloo Black Hawks. Committed to the University of North Dakota, Schmaltz ranks tied for seventh in League scoring with 61 points (17 g, 44a) in 53 games this season. He is currently riding a four-game point streak, recording four goals and four assists over that span.

Sonny Milano, F, Team USA: The Massapequa, New York native capped off his USHL career with a bang, recording five points (3g, 2a) over two victories for Team USA's Under-18 squad. On Friday night, he tallied a goal and an assist in a 5-4 shootout win over the Omaha Lancers. The Boston College commit was a special teams machine on Saturday, scoring a pair of goals - one on the power play and one shorthanded - and handing out another assist in a 4-3 win over the Muskegon Lumberjacks. The 17-year-old finishes his final USHL season second on the team in scoring, potting 14 goals and 25 assists in 25 games played.

Frederik Tiffels, F, Cedar Rapids RoughRiders: The 18-year-old produced five points (3g, 2a) over two victories to help the RoughRiders earn a weekend sweep against the Youngstown Phantoms. He established a USHL career high with a three-point night (1g, 2a) in Friday's 4-3 victory. The native of Cologne, Germany followed up with his first USHL career multi-goal effort with a pair of tallies in Saturday's 4-1 win. He is currently riding an eight-game point streak, totaling 13 points (6g, 7a) over that span which has included a goal in each of the last five contests. The Western Michigan University commit has put up 25 points (9g, 16a) in 29 games since being acquired by the Riders in December.

Brandon Montour, D, Waterloo Black Hawks: Hailing from Oshweken, Ontario, the defenseman helped guide the Hawks to a trio of wins, registering five points (1g, 4a) and recording a plus-three rating. He notched his 13th goal of the season and added an assist in Friday's 7-2 win over the Des Moines Buccaneers. He helped play the role of hero on Saturday, assisting on the game-winner in overtime goal of the 4-3 victory over the Sioux Falls Stampede. The 19-year-old rounded out the weekend with a two-assist performance and game high plus-three rating in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Green Bay Gamblers. The University of Massachusetts commit leads all USHL defensemen with 58 points (13g, 45a) in 58 games this season and ranks sixth in the League with a plus-32 rating.

Danny Tirone, G, Cedar Rapids RoughRiders: The first-year netminder led the Riders to a weekend sweep of the Youngstown Phantoms, posting a 2.00 goals-against average and .920 save percentage in two games played. He stopped 18 shots he faced in Friday's 4-3 win. The 19-year-old then turned out a 28-save performance to backstop Cedar Rapids to a 4-1 win on Saturday. Tirone hails from Trumbull, Connecticut and is tied for the League lead with 26 wins on the season, including six victories over his last seven starts. The University of New Hampshire commit has played the third most minutes (2,411) of any USHL goaltender this season and ranks tied for eighth in the League with a .916 SV%.
