Atlanta Braves outfielder and former Rome Braves player Jordan Schafer will begin a Major League Baseball rehabilitation stint in Rome beginning Monday May 3rd. Schafer was placed on the disabled list on April 28th and is recovering from wrist surgery done on September 5th of 2009.

Last season, he became the first player in baseball history to homer in his first Major League plate appearance on Opening Day against the defending World Champions. At the time he was the 10th Brave to homer in his MLB debut. Jason Heyward became the 11th Brave to do so on Opening Day 2010.

While playing in Rome in 2006, Schafer hit .240 with 60 RBI. In 2007, he hit .372 as a Rome Brave before being called up to Myrtle Beach after 30 games.

Rome returns to action at State Mutual Stadium tomorrow night at seven to begin an eight game home stand.
