SC United Battery Development Academy Season Kicks off Sunday
September 13, 2013 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Charleston Battery News Release
Charleston, SC. South Carolina's USSF Development Academy team, SC United Battery, will open its regular home season this coming Sunday September 15th at Blackbaud Stadium, Daniel Island, SC. SC United Battery will be involved in triple header action with three games featuring all three of its age level teams 14, 16 and 18 vs the Capital Area Railhawks; the games kick off at 9 AM, 11:30 AM and 2 PM with no charge for admission.
SC United Battery is an original member of the 80 club USSF Development Academy program and is starting its seventh full season this weekend. For the first time in 2013 the program includes a 14 level competition.
At the conclusion of the 2012-2013 season SC United Battery was ranked twenty fourth (24th) best club in the U.S. based on its player development record and team results.
The year long program requires clubs to conduct training sessions four times per week with a minimum of one rest day. USSF has designed the Development Academy curriculum to cover a ten month period with competition against similar clubs (some sponsored by Major League Soccer) to provide for the optimum in player development opportunity.
"It is great to have the addition of the 14 Academy team in the program because that player identification must take place at an earlier age if there is to be a benefit long term for our National Team Program" said Clark Brisson, SC United Battery Executive Director.
"Having the Battery as a sponsor and being able to play some of the games at Blackbaud Stadium is a huge benefit to us and we are also fortunate to receive strong support South Carolina United Mount Pleasant and South Carolina United in Columbia."
South Carolina United Battery Development Academy games are open to the public with no charge for admission.
