Louisville Fire News Release
Louisville Fire quarterback Matthew Sauk broke two league records against Quad City on Saturday night and has been rewarded for his efforts by the arenafootball2 league office. Sauk has been named Offensive Player of the Week for week 18 of the 2005 season.
Sauk threw for eight touchdown passes and 315 yards giving him 99 and 4,489 yards on the season respectively, both af2 records. Sauk set the record for completions in a season in early July and finished with 408 on the season.
"It was nice to get the record out of the way early. I have to credit to my line and my receivers. They have been great for me all year long, now we have to keep it going in the playoffs," commented Sauk. The record breaking pass came in the second quarter when Sauk hit Rob Mager for a 23 yard touchdown strike.
"It's always fun when a player on your team breaks a record like the touchdown record," said Fire head coach Tommy Johnson. "Hopefully our offense can continue to play the way they have played all season."
Sauk is the fifth Fire player to win a weekly league award this season and second in a row. Andrew Tippins was named ADT Defensive Player of the Week last week. Tony Stallings and Demetrius Forney were selected as US Army Ironman of the Week in weeks 2 and 5 respectively. Cesare Manning was named Offensive Player of the Week in Week 13.
The Fire will head to Macon this weekend for a first round playoff game against the Knight on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 and the game can be heard on 1080-AM WKJK.
