Saugerties Stallions News Release

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. - Ben Johnson (Georgia Southern) was on the mound for the Stallions, tossing 5 solid innings against Glens Falls giving up 4 runs during his outing with just two walks and eight strikeouts.

In the first inning, the Dragons jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Quinn McDaniel (Maine) crushed a triple to right field and drove in a pair. Two innings later, Colin Mackle (Marist) tied the game on a two-run home run to ignite some light into the Saugerties offense.

In the fourth inning, Albert Jennings (Washington State) gave the Stallions the lead after an infield error making the score 3-2. But the Dragons would then score five straight runs over the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

In the fifth inning, McDaniel hit a sac fly that drove in a run to tie the game and then the very next batter, a wild pitch brought in Peter O'Toole (Dartmouth) to give the Dragons the lead. In the sixth, James Murphy (St. John Fisher) scored on a passed ball extending the lead to two and then in the seventh, Murphy singled which drove in two runs to make it a 7-3 game.

Johnson's counterpart, Matt Chase (Ithaca), threw five innings allowing just three runs on three hits while striking out two. He was taken out in the sixth inning and replaced by Joe Rende (Rochester) who pitched three innings, giving up three runs in the eighth inning which made it a one-run game.

Richie Cimpric (Franklin Pierce) pitched the eighth and ninth innings striking out four and facing the minimum to give Saugerties a chance. Cimpric's pitching performance transferred over to hitting where the Stallions offense came alive in the eighth, scoring three runs to make it a 7-6 ball game heading into the ninth. Then, after a pair of hits and a sacrifice bunt by Nick Iverson (UC Davis) to tie the game, Jack Renwick (Wofford) singled to drive in the winning run to give the Stallions their 16th win of the season.

In total, Saugerties had seven hits and left nine runners on base. The Dragons had 4 hits and stranded six on base on the evening. Both teams had one error on the night.

Glens Falls' next game is Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. against Saugerties as the Stallions return to action Wednesday night at home against Amsterdam. First pitch is 7:05 p.m. and can be streamed on YouTube.
