Saturday Night Strikes - Pitching Duel in Joliet

Joliet, IL - The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy were in the good hands of their pitcher to start their game Saturday night. Joliet starting pitcher Liam O'Sullivan took to the mound for the second game of the home series against the visiting Windy City ThunderBolts.

O'Sullivan, a 6'3" right hander from South Grafton, Massachusetts, showcased his talent by retiring the first 14 batters he faced. O'Sullivan did not give up a hit until the top of the 5th, when Windy City 1st baseman Tyler Straub hit a single to right.

The ThunderBolts starting pitcher, Jake Welch, gave up two hits in the first 2 innings, including a single up the middle gap by Slammers' 1st baseman Trenton Hill. Following the at bat, Welch retired 13 straight Joliet batters.

In the 7th inning the Slammers threatened with bases loaded after a pair of walks and a single by Hill, but Ridge Hoopii-Haslam struck out looking, keeping the score 0-0.

Ransom LaLonde hit a deep sac fly to right field, scoring Tyler Straub. Blair Beck would hit a double off the left field wall, bringing Darius Day home to score. The ThunderBolts would put up 3 runs in the 8th inning. O'Sullivan would then be pulled after 7.1 innings pitched. He surrendered 3 Runs on only 4 Hits and struck out 7 batters.

The Slammers were unable to make any offensive progress and fell to Windy City 3-0.

Todays Merchants and Manufacturers Bank Player of the Game goes to Trenton Hill, who went 2-3 today with 2 singles and a walk. The Slammers conclude their homestand Sunday afternoon at 1:05 against Windy City.
