On one side of the Mexican showdown we find Club Santos Laguna, four-time Mexican soccer champion. Celebrating the 30th anniversary of its founding, Santos Laguna is currently the fourth-ranked team in the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF). On the other side we find Xolos de Tijuana, a young, but dedicated and tenacious team that has already succeeded in becoming champion. Despite its recent founding in 2007, the team has earned a place among the best teams in Mexican soccer.

Santos won its first championship on Sunday, December 22, 1996 after a spectacular final match. In the second half of 2007, Santos won its second championship in a tournament that saw the best the team had to offer, including leading with 38 points, a record-setting feat, and scoring the most goals in the tournament. On Sunday, June 1, 2008, the team scored a third championship win with a goal by Daniel Ludueña. By the Torneo Clausura 2012 tournament, Santos Laguna was back on top, finishing as the tournament leader and as the team with the most goals. When Santos faced off against the Club de Fútbol Monterrey "Rayados," they became a four-time Mexican soccer champion.

The Xolos first competed in a Mexican soccer "liguilla" in 2010, making it to the quarter finals. On December 2, 2012, Xolos de Tijuana faced Deportivo Toluca F.C. to win the Liga MX Torneo Apertura 2012 tournament, only three tournaments after becoming a Primera DivisiÃ"n team, entering the team's name into the annals of Mexican soccer. Xolos de Tijuana has also excelled internationally, twice winning the San Diego Clásico held annually in the Southern California city. This is a chance for fans to enjoy two teams that have made history in Mexican soccer play against each other on Sunday, October 13 at Toyota Field in San Antonio at 4:00 pm.
