San Jose's Steven Lenhart Voted MLS Player of the Week

NEW YORK (Monday, April 30, 2012) San Jose Earthquakes forward Steven Lenhart was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 8 of the 2012 MLS season. Lenhart scored two goals in San Jose's 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Union on Saturday at PPL Park.

Lenhart came off the bench in the 60th minute for Sam Cronin and found the back of the net just 16 minutes later. From inside the area, fellow substitute Marvin Chavez chipped a ball toward goal and Lenhart finished with a diving header.

Chavez and Lenhart combined again to give San Jose the lead late into stoppage time. Chavez floated a long cross from the right side of the field to Lenhart at the top of the six-yard box. Lenhart again headed the ball past goalkeeper Zac MacMath for the game-winning goal.

Saturday's performance marked the third multi-goal game of Lenhart's MLS career.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
