THE SAN JOSE GIANTS... begin a three game set with the Southern Division Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Friday night. San Jose enters Thursday with a seven game lead over the Modesto Nuts and Stockton Ports for the California League Northern Division first half championship.

MOWING DOWN MODESTO...Nick Pereira, Justin Hedrick, and Brian Anderson combined to pitch a one hit shutout on Wednesday night. Pereira fired the first seven innings allowing only a single to Justin nelson to lead off the 2nd inning while striking out nine batters. Hedrick struck out all three Nuts that he faced in a perfect inning of work. Closer Brian Anderson picked up his league-leading17th save of the season to complete the one hit shutout.

LUCKING NUMBER SEVEN...Lucky number seven popped up all over the place during Wednesday night's game against Modesto. In the one hit shut out, Nick Pereira won his seventh game of the season, Justin Hedrick recorded his seventh hold of the season, and Brian Anderson grabbed his 17th save of the season. Not to mention, the win extended the Giants division lead to seven games.

LEADING THE PACK...Brian Horwitz sits atop the league in batting average after the outfielder's 2-for- 4 performance on Wednesday. The right handed hitter jumped past Modesto's Matt Miller with a little help from the Giants pitching staff, as Miller went 0-for-3 on Wednesday.

THE RANCHO CUCAMONGA QUAKES...trail the Inland Empire 66ers by three games in the Southern Division of the California League entering Thursday. Sunday's starter for the Quakes, Jose Arredondo, holds the third best ERA in the league with a mark of 2.21. The right hander has struck out 85 batters in 61 innings of work, yet only has picked up three wins all season.
