Giants Begin Four-Game Series At Bakersfield Tonight

The San Jose Giants conclude the regular season with a four-game series against the Bakersfield Blaze at Sam Lynn Ballpark. The Giants are 11-12 versus the Blaze this year (8-4 second half). Martin Agosta is slated to make the start on the mound for San Jose in tonight's series opener. Agosta owns a 3.30 ERA in eight starts since the All-Star break. The former second round draft pick has 116 strikeouts and just 24 walks in 100 innings pitched this season.

Playoff Bound

The Giants have a clinched a berth in the playoffs having secured at least a Wild Card spot. San Jose will play Stockton in the best-of-three North Mini-Series beginning on Wednesday, September 9. The Giants are in the playoffs for the 11th time over the last 12 seasons. San Jose missed the postseason last year after reaching the playoffs in a league-record 10 consecutive seasons (2004-13).

Second Half Race

The Giants (42-24) are currently two games ahead of Visalia (40-26) in the second half North Division race with four games remaining in the regular season. San Jose's last division title was a first half crown during the 2013 season. The Giants' most recent second half championship came in 2009. A second half title (or a better overall record than Stockton) would give San Jose home field advantage in next week's Mini-Series (host games two and three).

Won 10 Of 11

The Giants enter tonight's contest having won 10 out of their last 11 games. San Jose is also 16-5 in their last 21 games. Since July 1, the Giants are 40-21 - tops in the California League.

League-Leading Pitching Staff

San Jose boasts the lowest team ERA in the California League at 3.46. The Giants are also first in the league in strikeouts (1,308) and shutouts (15). The San Jose pitching staff has already set a team record for strikeouts in a single-season (previous record: 1,282 strikeouts in 2013). The Giants also have three shutouts in their last nine games and nine since the All-Star break. San Jose owns a stellar 2.87 team ERA since the beginning of July.

12 Straight Winning Seasons

The Giants (72-64) are guaranteed to finish the year with a record above .500 extending their streak to 12 consecutive winning seasons (2004-15) - a California League record. The Giants were at one point 14 games under .500 this season (12-26 on May 18). San Jose was 13 games under the .500 mark as late as July 6 (34-47... 38-17 since).

Angel Villalona Home Run Tracker

With a home run on Saturday, first baseman Angel Villalona moved into a tie for fourth place with Travis Ishikawa (2004-05, 2007) on the San Jose Giants career home run list. Villalona has hit 36 homers with San Jose spanning three seasons (9 HR in 2009, 14 HR in 2013, 13 HR in 2015 - 211 total games).

Team Awards

The Giants handed out their 2015 team awards over the last two homestands. Award winners included: Christian Arroyo (MVP, Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year), Chase Johnson (Pitcher of the Year), Jake Smith (Relief Pitcher of the Year) and Dan Slania (Good Guy - for work in community).

Carbonell Extends Hitting Streak To Eight Games

Outfielder Daniel Carbonell brings an eight-game hitting streak into tonight's action. Carbonell is batting at a .414 clip (12-for-29) during the streak with four doubles, two homers and six RBI's.

Giant Bullpen

Since July 1, the Giants bullpen has a 2.34 ERA. Closer Jake Smith is tied for fourth in the league in saves (16) and eighth in strikeouts (118 - tops among relievers). San Jose is the only team in the league to have not lost a game this season when leading after eight innings (60-0).

Opponent Notes: Bakersfield Blaze

The Bakersfield Blaze, an affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, own the worst overall record in the North Division at 57-79. The Blaze have gone 20-12 since the beginning of August.
