San Diego, C.A. (Friday, February 10, 2010) - The American Basketball Association (ABA) has announced its 2010-1 All-Star squads, and San Diego Surf center, Gene Shipley, has been selected to represent the West in the annual showcase. The game is scheduled for Saturday, February 26th, with the action taking place in Jacksonville, Florida.

"Shipley is a versatile player who can fill the stat sheet," stated Surf head coach Terry Mason. "He is a strong, inside player who can fill the hoop and crash the boards.

The 6-foot-9, 260-pound Shipley has averaged a double-double this season. On the year, he has regularly turned in 20-25 points and 12-15 rebounds on a nightly basis. Shipley graduated from Brandon University in Canada.

While very deserving of the honor, Shipley is quite excited to receive the All-Star nod.

"First, I would like to thank Coach Mason, team owner, Ross Kurland, and the entire San Diego Surf organization for giving me an opportunity to play and represent the San Diego Surf, on and off the court," he remarked. "I truly appreciate being selected to the All-Star Team and I will dedicate the game to my wife and my Surf teammates."

With only 12 players selected to each All-Star roster, ABA President/COO Dick Packer is very confident in the level of talent that will be on display in the game on February 26th.

"I've been around basketball for many years," he said. "This is an outstanding group of players. In my estimation, either of these teams would be NBA playoff teams, if given the opportunity. But that's another story. Fans will be treated to fast-paced, exciting basketball played by players with extraordinary talent and skills. It will be a great game."

The San Diego Surf have already clinched a berth into the ABA Playoffs that will start in March. For all your Surf info, please visit: www.SDSurfHoops.com .
