San Diego Sol News Release

The San Diego Sol Men's basketball team won its second ABA SoCal Division Championship, Sunday afternoon at the SportCenter at Alliant University. It was a hard-fought, 81 - 80 overtime victory against the visiting Arizona Scorpions. The win places the Sol in the elite eight of the ABA National Championship playoffs.

Coming into the game, the Sol were ranked #3 in the nation, with Arizona being ranked #5. The Sol won 2 games to 1 during the regular season versus the Scorpions. The most recent game was a lopsided 41-point win for the Sol. Still, the Scorpions won the first meeting between the two teams when the Sol traveled to Phoenix for Sol's first game of the season.

Next weekend, San Diego will host the Northern California Division Champion, Bay Area Matrix, who upset the number one seed in that division. The winner of next week's game moves forward to play in the ABA Final Four, in St. Petersburg, FL, as part of the ABA All-Star Game and ABA Championship held April 9 -15.
