San Diego Sockers News Release

SOCKERS' DEFENSIVE ACES CRACK KINGS

In a battle of the top two teams in the PASL-Pro, the San Diego Sockers' controlled the final three quarters of a 10-4 victory over the Cincinnati Kings on Saturday, January 8th at the Del Mar Arena. The Sockers' defense held Cincinnati scoreless for the game's final 45:43, while San Diego got a natural hat trick from Kraig Chiles to break open a 4-4 tie. A crowd of 2,640 watched he win, which gives the Sockers a 12-0 all-time record in PASL-Pro games played at the Del Mar Arena.

FARBER DAZZLES IN DEBUT

Signed prior to the game, free agent midfielder Brian Farber made himself right at home on Saturday night, scoring a goal with two assists in his Sockers debut. Farber played the previous two PASL-Pro seasons with the California Cougars and was league MVP in 2008-2009, when he scored 49 goals in 21 games. He is the league's all-time leader in goals with 74.

CHILES' HAT TRICK KEEPS HIM IN SCORING RACE

The Sockers may have two MVPs on their roster by season's end. Kraig Chiles continues to dominate the PASL-Pro and his hat trick in Saturday's 10-4 win over the Cincinnati Kings gave Kraig the team goals lead with 18 in 9 games. Chiles has also distributed 8 assists for an impressive 26 points. Chiles snapped a 4-4 tie in the second quarter against the Kings with a strike from right wing off a scrum in front of the net. He then finished a left wing pass from Anthony Medina in the third quarter to make it 6-4, and went from one side of the field to the other to finish an Aaron Susi assist in the fourth quarter for a power play goal and a 7-4 lead.

INJURIES CONTINUE TO DOG SOCKERS

While the Sockers were thrilled to celebrate victory over the Kings on Saturday night, they continue to pay the price physically and may be severely short-handed for Saturday's trip to Tijuana. Captain and forward Aaron Susi suffered a third quarter sprained ankle, and while he returned to play Susi is questionable for the hard turf of Estadio Furati. Likewise, Chiky Luna scored a goal but was limited in his return from a severe ankle sprain and may skip the Tijuana trip for precautionary reasons. With John Krause continuing a 10-day tryout in Istanbul, Turkey and several Sockers unlikely to travel to Tijuana, it could be a much different side facing Revolucion on Saturday night.
