SOCKERS WELCOME STARS TO DEL MAR

Western Division rival Tacoma makes its first appearance of the season at the Del Mar Arena on Saturday night as the Sockers open a three game homestand. The Stars and Sockers will meet four times in the regular season including a February 25th return to Del Mar in the regular season finale. San Diego will play back-to-back games in Tacoma on January 14th and 15th. Last season the Sockers were 3-0 against the Stars.

MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT, HOLIDAY TOY DRIVE HIGHLIGHT SATURDAY'S GAME

The Sockers honor the men and women who serve and have served in our Armed Forces on Military Appreciation Night when the Sockers host the Tacoma Stars. The Sockers have teamed with MCRD and Hall of Champions Youth Sports partnership to distribute 500 tickets to service members and their families. Brigadier General Daniel Yoo will be on hand for the ceremonial "first kick". For more information visit www.sdsockers.com.

STREAKING SOCKERS PERFECT AT DEL MAR

The Sockers enter Saturday night having won twelve consecutive PASL regular season games and seventeen straight matches overall (counting US Open and playoff action). In addition, the Sockers will put their undefeated streak at the Del Mar Arena on the line. San Diego is 26-0 all-time in Del Mar. The breakdown: 18-0 in PASL regular season games, 2-0 in PASL playoff games, 4-0 in US Open matches and 2-0 in exhibition friendlies.

OPPONENT'S PROFILE: Tacoma Stars

SEASON: 3-3

vs. SOCKERS: 0-4 in '10-'11

Last Meeting: SOCKERS 5, Tacoma 0 (2/5)

Tacoma started the season 0-2 but has rebounded to win three of their last four matches heading into Saturday night. While the Stars lost Greg Howes, their player/coach from last season, to the MISL champion Milwaukee Wave, Tacoma has rebuilt around longtime indoor veteran Ian Weinberg, who has integrated some outstanding outdoor veterans to his team. The Stars could be a very dangerous team come playoff time as their outdoor vets adjust to the indoor game.

STAR: Ian Weinberg, forward

The 30-year-old veteran has been a mainstay of the indoor game since signing with the MISL's Cleveland Force in 2004, where he was a teammate of current Sockers captain Aaron Susi. Weinberg leads Tacoma with nine goals and four assists (13 points) in six games played. Look for Weinberg in the corners during the run of play, and at the top of the Stars' power play unit.

WATCH OUT FOR: Adam Nowland, midfielder

Nowland is an admitted newcomer to the game of indoor soccer, but only because he spent so many years excelling on the outdoor pitch. Nowland scored 16 goals over a 13 year English Premier League career, spent mostly with Blackpool, Nottingham Forest and West Ham United. In his first season playing indoor soccer, Nowland has already recorded a four-goal, two-assist effort against Phoenix and is second on the team with seven goals and three assists in five games.
