San Antonio Stars Announce 2016 Schedule

January 28, 2016 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
San Antonio Stars News Release

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Stars will begin the 2016 season on Sat. May 14, hosting the Atlanta Dream at the newly-renovated AT&T Center at 7 p.m. The opener marks the sixth time in franchise history that the Stars will begin the season at home, dating back to their move to San Antonio in 2003.

San Antonio will start the 34-game schedule by playing five of their first eight games of the season at home. The month of May will feature three home games, culminating with a May 27 matchup against reigning MVP Elena Delle Donne and the Chicago Sky.

June marks the busiest month for the Stars, who will play 11 games, five at home and six on the road, in a span of 28 days. The Stars will face the defending champion Minnesota Lynx three times in the 2016 season and will host the former Tulsa Shock and newly-relocated Dallas Wings for the first time on Sept. 9.

With as many as 25 WNBA players likely to represent their respective countries at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from Aug. 5-21, the league has not scheduled any games from July 23 through Aug. 25. Similar to the 2004, 2008 and 2012 seasons that also saw a break in the schedule for the Olympics, WNBA teams and players will remain active in their local communities during the hiatus.

After the 2016 Summer Olympics, in which the United States looks to earn its sixth consecutive gold medal in women's basketball, the WNBA will tip off the second half of its season on Friday, Aug. 26.

The Stars conclude their 2016 regular season schedule on Sept. 18 at home against the Phoenix Mercury. The game will wrap up a busy September that will see the Stars play eight games in 18 days to finish the season.

The 2016 Stars season, which is presented by CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System and H-E-B, marks the team's 14th year in San Antonio and the 20th season in the WNBA.

Stars games can be heard on The Ticket 760 KTKR-AM with Andrew Monaco. The Stars 2016 television and promotional schedules will be released at a later date. Ticket plans for the 2016 Stars season are available now. Visit SAStars.com or call a Stars representative at (210) 444-5090 for more information.
