San Antonio Stars Acquire Monique Currie from Phoenix

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Stars today announced that the team has acquired forward Monique Currie from the Phoenix Mercury in exchange for the Stars' 2017 second round draft pick.

A 10-season WNBA veteran, Currie (6-0, 173, Duke) has averaged 10.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.0 steals in 24.5 minutes. Charlotte selected Currie third overall in the 2006 WNBA Draft. Throughout her WNBA career she has played for Charlotte (2006), Chicago (2007), Washington (2007-14) and Phoenix (2015).

"We are thrilled to have Monique Currie join the Stars," said Stars General Manager Ruth Riley. "Throughout her career, she has proven to be a dynamic scorer, from the 3-point line to post-ups. Our young backcourt will benefit greatly from her experience and veteran presence."

The Stars open the 2016 season at home on Saturday, May 14 against the Atlanta Dream. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. (CST) at the AT&T Center.
