San Antonio Spurs Assign Butler to NBA D-League Affiliate Austin Toros

NEW YORK, March 28, 2011 ¬" San Antonio Spurs forward Da ¬â¢Sean Butler was assigned to the Austin Toros, San Antonio ¬â¢s NBA Development League affiliate, it was announced today. The assignment marks the 50th time in the 2010-11 season an NBA player has been assigned to an NBA D-League affiliate, and it is the first assignment for Butler, a rookie out of West Virginia.
Butler (6-7, 230) signed with San Antonio on March 25. He was placed on the inactive list to continue rehab on a torn left ACL he suffered in the 2010 NCAA Final Four against Duke on April 3, and was recently cleared to resume game action. He was selected by the Miami Heat in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2010 NBA Draft, but was released before the start of the season.
Butler had an outstanding career at West Virginia, finishing with the most wins (107) in school history. In four years as a Mountaineer, Butler averaged 14.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 146 games, becoming the school ¬â¢s all-time leader in double-figure scoring games (108). Named to the All-Big East First Team as a senior, Butler ranks among the Mountaineers ¬â¢ career leaders in seven statistical categories, and his 2,095 career points ranks third in WVU history behind Jerry West and Rod Hundley.
Butler is the 35th NBA player to be assigned to the NBA D-League this season, extending an all-time high.
Butler is expected to join Austin for its game at Reno on Tuesday. The Toros, currently 1.5 games behind Fort Wayne for the eighth and final playoff position, have three regular season games remaining, including a two-game home series against the Texas Legends, who are a half-game behind Fort Wayne, on Thursday and Saturday.
