San Antonio FC News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TX - San Antonio FC (5-3-5) will face Reno 1868 FC (5-3-7) at Toyota Field on Saturday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m. as the club hosts Give Back Night presented by Silver & Black Give Back. The match will mark the fourth matchup between the two clubs.
SAFC heads into the match looking to build on a two-game winning streak after beating Portland Timbers 2 on June 2 and Sacramento Republic FC last Saturday. SAFC is 4-1-2 at home this season, and will look to continue their run of good form in front of their fans.
"We're always excited to play at Toyota Field," SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. "Our fans have been tremendous and they get behind the team, and it's like having a 12th man when we play in this stadium. When the fans are right behind the team, we get that extra burst of energy that can make the difference in a game, so we're always excited to play at home with our fans."
Reno will look to earn a win on the road and build on their own streak as well. The club is currently unbeaten in their previous 11 matches and is unbeaten on the road, and has not lost a match since falling 0-4 to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on April 14.
SAFC is 1-2-0 all-time against the Nevada club. The Alamo City club earned a convincing 4-0 win against Reno on April 15 in their only matchup at Toyota Field.
San Antonio FC will look to earn back-to-back clean sheets after shutting out Sacramento last weekend to earn their fourth shutout of the season. Goalkeeper Diego Restrepo tied the club's all-time record for saves in a single game (nine), while defender Cyprian Hedrick led the team with 13 clearances and five blocks.
Defender Darnell King will also be an integral part of the team's transition play. The full-back is one of just three players in the Western Conference who has tallied at least 29 interceptions and 36 tackles, and also leads SAFC with four assists.
The match will mark Give Back Night presented by Silver & Black Give Back. Give Back Night will support SBGB youth programs as player-worn and signed SBGB pregame tops will be auctioned off through 10 p.m. Fans can sign up and bid on items at safc.givesmart.com or by texting 'SAFC' to 52182. The first 4,000 fans at the match will receive branded fan bangers courtesy of Silver & Black Give Back, and an SBGB shirt can be added to any ticket for an additional $10.
