San Antonio FC Hosts La Galaxy II at Toyota Field
August 3, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
San Antonio FC News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TX - San Antonio FC (8-5-7) will host LA Galaxy II (5-11-5) at Toyota Field on Saturday, August 4 at 7:30 p.m. The game marks the second matchup between the two teams this season, and will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Southwest Plus.
SAFC heads into the match after earning three wins in the span of eight days last week. From July 21-28, the club earned a 4-2 win against league-leaders Real Monarchs SLC and a 1-0 win against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at home, as well as a 2-1 win against OKC Energy FC on the road.
The Alamo City club is currently in eighth place in the Western Conference standings, just two points behind Portland Timbers 2 and Swope Park Rangers but with two games in hand. With a win on Saturday, SAFC could jump into sixth place in the West pending results around the league.
LA Galaxy II will look to get a win on the road after recording a draw and two losses in their last three outings. Los Dos are currently in 14th place in the standings and have not earned a win in nearly a month, however the club has managed to score an impressive 36 goals so far this season despite conceding 42.
"LA has a very talented team and is very well-coached," SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. "Like any other game in this league, we'll have to work extremely hard (to win). They're a very tough team and we expect both teams will have to fight to earn the points on Saturday."
SAFC and LA Galaxy II most recently faced each other on March 31, when the teams played to a 0-0 draw at StubHub Center. The last time LA Galaxy II visited SAFC, the Alamo City club earned a 3-0 win at Toyota Field in their 2017 home opener.
Following Saturday's match, SAFC will play eight of their next 10 matches on the road. For the South Texas club, continuing to pick up points will be crucial, especially at home, as they continue to climb the standings and aim to secure a position in the USL playoffs.
"We need wins, so the urgency is there," SAFC captain Ryan Roushandel said. "We know we need points and we want to win, especially at home, so the guys have really raised their level over the past week. We're paying more attention to detail and we're doing it as a team. We had a lot of different guys play over our three matches last week, so that shows the depth we have and the trust we have in each other to get results."
