Republic FC Sign Goalkeeper Thomas Olsen on Loan
August 3, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sacramento Republic FC News Release
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento Republic FC announced today that the club has signed goalkeeper Thomas Olsen on loan through September 14.
"Thomas is a welcome addition to reinforce our goalkeeping unit," said Republic FC General Manager Todd Dunivant. "We look forward to integrating him into the locker room and on the field."
Olsen will add depth to Republic FC's roster after goalkeeper Rafael Diaz was ruled out for four-to-six weeks following an injury sustained at training recently.
A native of Las Vegas, Olsen joins Republic FC on loan after spending the first part of the 2018 season with fellow United Soccer League (USL) side Las Vegas Lights FC. The rookie goalkeeper originally joined the Nevadan club after being selected by Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids in the Third Round of the 2018 SuperDraft.
Prior to joining Lights FC, Olsen enjoyed a successful collegiate career at the University of San Diego, where he ranks second in program history in career games started in goal (70), third in career saves (203), three times earned All-West Coast Conference honors and was the league's Freshman of the Year in 2014. His performances earned him a call-up to the U-20 U.S. Men's National Team that played in the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
Republic FC return to action on Saturday, August 4, against Fresno FC in what is the second of five #5YearsOfGlory Celebration matches. Kickoff at Papa Murphy's Park is scheduled for 8 p.m. and tickets are available via Ticketmaster.com. The match will be broadcast live on KQCA My58, Estrella TV 58.3 and ESPN+.
