Akron Racers News Release
AKRON, OH - Akron Racers shortstop Sami Fagan took home the NPF Offensive Player of the Week honor for Week 5 of the NPF season spanning June 27-July 3. In five games, the rookie batted 7-for-16 (.438), including two home runs and a double, with seven RBI and five runs scored.
It was the second time Fagan earned a weekly award, being named Rookie of the Week in Week 2 of the season, when Akron swept the three weekly awards. In that week third baseman Kelley Montalvo and pitcher Jailyn Ford won Offensive Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. Along with Montalvo, Fagan became the third Racer to win Offensive Player of the Week, as first baseman Sam Fischer won the award last week. It is the fourth straight week at least one Racer has been recognized as Alex Hugo won the Rookie of the Week award in Week 3.
On Tuesday, June 28, Fagan broke the game open in a 5-1 win over the Pennsylvania Rebellion with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning for Akron's final three runs of the game as the first win of a week that saw the team go 3-2. On the week Fagan had three multi-hit games and three games in which she was responsible for more than one run scoring.
This season, Fagan leads the NPF in doubles with six and total bases with 47 and is tied for first with 21 RBI. Fagan is also second in the league with a .409 batting average and runs scored (19). She is also third with 27 hits and fourth with a .712 slugging percentage. Fagan leads the Racers in batting average, hits, doubles and total bases, while tying the team lead in RBI with Fischer.
The Racers have one final game on a four-game road trip tonight (July 5) against the expansion Scrap Yard Dawgs before returning home to Firestone Stadium this weekend to take on the Dawgs in a two-game home series Friday, July 8 and Saturday, July 9. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m. For ticket information contact the Racers box office at 330-376-8188 and for more information on all things Racers visit the team's website at www.akronracers.org.
