
Dawgs Fall to Pauly, Racers

The Woodlands, TX (July 4, 2016) - The Dawgs faced the Akron Racers for a Fourth of July celebration.
The Racers were first on the board. Jennifer Gilbert led the inning off with a hit by pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Geri Ann Glasco followed with a walk and Griffin Joiner laid down a bunt to move the runners to bring up Ashley Thomas, who loaded the bases for the Racers. Taylor Schlopy came in clutch with a two-run double to put two runs on the board for the Racers (2-0).
Starting pitcher Ivy Renfroe had three strikeouts over four innings and her sister, Ellen Renfroe Reed, entered in relief in the fifth inning.
In the fifth inning, the Racers led off with back-to-back singles by Schlopy and Montalvo to put runners on base for Missouri standout Sami Fagan, who earned a two-run triple (4-0). Alex Hugo followed with a two-run homer over left field (6-0). Sara Driesenga entered for Reed to finish the inning.
The Dawgs struggled to break the ice offensively against Sarah Pauly. Rachel Fox entered in the seventh to finish the game off for the Dawgs. The hits continued for the Racers with a leadoff single from Fagan and a walk to Hugo. Akron continued the hitting rally to make the score 12-0.
The Dawgs attempted the comeback but fell to the Racers 12-0. The Scrap Yard Dawgs will face the Akron Racers tomorrow night at the Scrap Yard Complex.
