Sami Fagan Named NPF Rookie of the Week

AKRON, OH -- For the second time this season, Akron Racers shortstop Sami Fagan (Missouri) has been named the NPF Rookie of the Week. From July 4-July 10, Fagan hit an even .500 (7-for-14) while contributing six RBI and three runs scored in Week 6 of the season.

In her rookie campaign, Fagan has already taken home three weekly awards including NPF Rookie of the Week honors twice and NPF Offensive Player of the Week just last week. Her teammates have enjoyed similar recognition as the Racers have had a player on the weekly awards list every week since week two.

Fagan began the week with a four-hit performance against the Scrap Yard Dawgs in which she was just a home run shy of the cycle. Then on Saturday, July 9, she crushed her fifth NPF home run - a mammoth three-run shot that gave her team a 5-0 cushion in a 6-4 victory over the Scrap Yard Dawgs.

The rookie, out of Missouri, has shown her ability to produce in clutch situations and proved it once again this week as five of her seven hits came with two outs in the inning. On the season, Fagan is hitting .423 in those situations. She is also batting .472 with runners on base and an astounding .538 with runners in scoring position.

Fagan leads the NPF in RBI (25) and holds a share of the league lead for doubles (6). Her .400 average, 20 runs scored and 53 total bases are all good enough for second in league. Fagan also has 30 hits midway through the season, which puts her third place in the NPF. Fagan leads all NPF rookies in batting average, runs scored, total bases and hits on the year.

The Racers will hope Fagan stays hot as they hit the road this week for a three-game stretch against the Pennsylvania Rebellion before heading back to Firestone Stadium for a six-game home stand in which the Racers will celebrate their 15th Season of Play in Akron on Saturday, July 16.
