Kissimmee, FL- The USSSA Pride lost their third consecutive game as they dropped the Kansas City series opener to the Scrap Yard Dawgs 4-3.
Shelby Pendley waits for the pitch against the Scrap Yard Dawgs
The Dawgs went up early in the game, scoring two runs in the second inning followed by one run in the third. The Pride seemed to be in a bit of a hole until the bottom of the third inning. The bottom half of the third was all it took for the Pride to stage a comeback. Using the momentum of four consecutive base hits, the Pride scored two earned runs and dug out one unearned to match the three run score.
The tie game was held through the fifth inning until the top of the sixth. With two outs behind her, Kiki Stokes hit a solo home run off of Pride reliever Jolene Henderson to propel the Dawgs ahead of the Pride. The home run was all the Dawgs needed, as the Pride could not string enough base runners together to take the lead in the sixth or seventh innings.
Offensive highlights for the Pride included Shelby Pendley and Lauren Chamberlain. Pendley continued her big-hitter ways, going 3-2 with an RBI. Chamberlain recorded zero at-bats on the night, drawing three walks from Scrap Yard Dawgs ace Monica Abbott. The rest of the Pride lineup was held to just three hits all game, highlighting Abbott's ability to shut down a hot offense.
Starter Hannah Rogers allowed seven hits in 23 batters faced and allowed three earned runs. She was, however, able to hold on to the tie for her team until Henderson replaced her in the fourth inning.
Henderson gave up just three hits in 2.2 innings pitched, although she gave up the winning run in Stokes' solo shot. She took the loss in the one-run defeat.
The Pride will face the Scrap Yard Dawgs again tomorrow night in Kansas City, KS. First pitch is set for 7:00 ET.
