Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Salt Potatoes outhit the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, but Syracuse lost the series finale to Lehigh Valley, 3-2, on Thursday night in front of a crowd of more than 7,300 at NBT Bank Stadium. Lehigh Valley (77-52) scored first in the top of the third inning against Syracuse starting pitcher David Gofoth. Dean Anna led off with a double. Two batters later, Mitch Walding doubled to right field, scoring Anna for a 1-0 IronPigs lead.
Syracuse (56-73) responded in the bottom of the third against Lehigh Valley starter Enyel De Los Santos. Bengie Gonzalez led off with a walk. The IronPigs retook the lead in the top of the eighth against Salt Potatoes reliever Chris Smith. With one out, Mitch Walding was hit by a pitch. With Joey Meneses batting, Walding stole second base. Meneses then singled, scoring Walding to put Lehigh Valley in front, 2-1. Two batters later, Aaron Altherr doubled into the left-field corner, plating Meneses from first to give the IronPigs a 3-1 advantage.
