Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

The IronPigs broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the eighth with two runs to take the rubber-match from Syracuse 3-2. Tonight's victory gives Lehigh Valley 10 wins on the season against the Chiefs and the IronPigs now have double-digit wins against three IL-North opponents.

The IronPigs and Chiefs team traded runs in the third inning. The IronPigs took a 1-0 lead against David Goforth with a RBI double by Mitch Walding. In the bottom half Syracuse scored an unearned run against Enyel De Los Santos to tie the game at one.

De Los Santos did not factor in the decision Thursday night in Syracuse. Allowing just one unearned run, De Los Santos went six-innings and struck out three lowering his ERA to 2.43.

Lehigh Valley took the lead back from Syracuse in the top of the eighth inning. Walding was hit by a pitch and later stole second to set up the go-ahead run.

Joey Meneses followed with a run scoring single to right to score Walding and make it 2-1 against Chris Smith (4-5). Two batters later, Aaron Altherr extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a RBI double to score Meneses and make it 3-1.

Tyler Gilbert (3-1) provided an inning and two-thirds of relief allowing one run in the bottom of the eighth but picked up the win. Pedro Beato (32) came on for Lehigh Valley to close out the ball game for the Pigs. Beato recorded four outs and retired the side in order in the ninth to shut door in ball game.

With the victory the IronPigs magic number to clinch their first ever IL-North title shrinks to 2! This sets up a win and in scenario with the Railriders heading into the four-game series. Tom Eshelman takes the mound for the IronPigs against Mike King for SWB.
