2019 SALT LAKE STALLIONS QUOTES
Stallions Head Coach Dennis Erickson spoke about the opening of training camp following today's practice:
- On getting out on the practice field:
"Today was like most first days of practice. We have 75 (players) out here and they are all trying to make this team, we were without pads, but it was a good start."
- On what he saw on the field today:
"I thought it went very well. Obviously with the first day there is a lot of enthusiasm, we will see how that goes after about five practices when your tired. We got a lot of things done that we needed to get done and we can go back as coaches and look at the players on tape. It's always an evaluation, every day is an evaluation for these players because we have to get down to (52 players) in a month. So, every day is an evaluation, so we will evaluate them after every practice. There is a lot of enthusiasm and we have got some good players out here so it will be fun to see them grow and get better. It was fun, we haven't been in pads and we won't go in pads until Tuesday (January 8) but there was a lot of learning done out there."
- On his what his expectations are going forward:
"Pretty much the same thing. As I said earlier, we have to cut down to (52 players) and right now we are at 75 players, so there is a lot of competition and we have to make some decisions when we leave here at the end of January who is going to be on our (52 player) squad, so basically that is what we are going to do in the next month. It's all about evaluation, but at the same time it is developing what we want to do as a football team offensively, defensively and in the kicking game. Every day is new and every day is a learning period."
