Salt Lake Bees News Release

The Salt Lake Bees (29-33) defeated the Round Rock Express (35-27) 2-1 with an impressive pitching performance, as three SL hurlers combined to allow just six hits on the night.

Round Rock jumped out to an early lead with a single run in the first inning before Salt Lake retook the advantage on a two-run third inning made possible by four consecutive singles from David Fletcher, Trey Cabbage, Michael Stefanic and Jake Lamb. Round Rock loaded the bases in the fourth with one out, threatening to do damage before Swanda quenched the threat with a strikeout and grounder to first, escaping the inning unscathed. Stefanic would finish the game 3-for-4 with an RBI just one night after his 62-game record-breaking on-base streak was snapped. David Fletcher was also 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and run scored.

Bees righty John Swanda produced an impressive outing in his fourth career Triple-A start, striking out six through his first three innings and allowing just one run before being relieved with two outs in the fifth. Jhonathan Diaz and Zack Weiss were flawless in 4.1 innings of relief, allowing no runs on two hits to improve Diaz's record to 4-0 and earn Weiss his first save of 2023.

Salt Lake and Round Rock meet tomorrow at Smith's Ballpark for the sixth and final game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
