Salt Lake City Saints News Release

Salt Lake City Saints Head Coach Lossie Mitchel coached his team to their second win, a 105-91 win over Modesto on Monday Night. John Millsap made sure that it happened by simply being too much for any Bearcat defender. A late run by the Bearcats made it interesting, before the Saints put the game away for the teams' second win in as many nights.

Tyler Jones got off to a great start, scoring 3 early baskets inside to give the Saints an early lead. When Jones suffered a nasty cut under his eye, Millsap got the Saints out front before Aaron Gentry scored 8 points to cut the Saints lead from 9 to 4 at 30-26.

Brock Hyatt and Bernard Rock came off the Saints bench to lead the Saints on a 20-4 run to start the second period. The Saints reserves held the Bearcats to one field goal in the final 8 minutes of the quarter, and Nick Covington hit two 3 point shots as the Saints held a 57-37 lead at halftime.

The Bearcats climbed back into the game behind the hot shooting of Kevin Young and Jamal Harris, who helped Modesto claw back to within 5 points of the Saints midway through the third quarter. Millsap and Hyatt pushed the Saints lead to 80-69 at periods end.

The final quarter was a grind and push affair with both teams having the momentum. Harris, Kendrick Grace and Kevin Young all had great quarters, but it was Millsap and Evric Gray that made the big plays down the stretch to extend the Saints lead and allowed Salt Lake City to finish strong on their way to a 105-91 win on the road.

Millsap finished with 30 points and 16 rebounds, while Jones, Covington, Tim Drisdom, Kevin Sweetwyne and Hyatt all finished in double figures for the Saints. Young led the Bearcats with 23 while Harris, Dashawn Anderson, TJ Walker, Grace, and Gentry all finished in double digits for the Bearcats.

The Saints (2-0) now prepare for the San Diego Wildcats on December 19th and 20th at Salt Lake Community College. For more information, visit www.slcsaints.com or email kwamsley@slcsaints.com.
