Salt Lake Bees News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - Baseball America announced today that the Salt Lake Bees are recipients of the 2015 Bob Freitas Award as the top Triple-A franchise. The Baseball America Bob Freitas Award recognizes excellence in the operation of Minor League baseball franchises with a focus on business success, operational practices and community involvement.
"It is an honor to be selected for the 2015 Bob Freitas Award," said Bees general manager Marc Amicone. "This award is a testament to the combined efforts of every part-time and full-time employee on our staff. It would also not be possible without the dedicated ownership of the Miller family who provide wonderful leadership and are committed to making the Bees a first-class organization."
The award will be formally presented to the Bees on Dec. 8 at Baseball Winter Meetings in Nashville, Tennessee.
The award is named after the late Bob Freitas, a long-time minor league baseball operator, promoter and ambassador. The Bob Freitas Award has been given annually since 1989 by Baseball America to the top franchise at the Triple-A, Double-A, Class-A and Short-Season levels. Salt Lake previously won the award in 1998 and is the first Pacific Coast League team to capture the honor since Colorado Springs in 2011.
Since 1994 Salt Lake has drawn more than 11-million fans to Smith's Ballpark, including 470,760 last season. The Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, the Bees have drawn at least 450,000 fans in nine of the last 10 seasons and are the second most attended sports attraction in Utah, behind only the NBA's Utah Jazz.
"We are incredibly grateful for the outstanding support we get from our fans. They are crucial to making Smith's Ballpark a special place in our community." Amicone added. "We also want to thank the Angels for providing us with players and coaches that are great examples on and off the field."
