Salmon Kings Receive Shantz and Aspenlind From Moose

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they have been assigned goaltender David Shantz (Sh-AWNT-ss) and forward Josh Aspenlind from the Moose.

Shantz returns to Victoria after appearing in 28 games for the Salmon Kings last season, posting a 18-5-4 record with a 0.910 save percentage, 2.88 goals against average and two shutouts. During his time in Victoria he was awarded the ECHL's Goaltender of the Week award twice and was selected as a starter for the 2010 ECHL All-Star Game.

Aspenlind, a Langley, BC native, joins the Salmon Kings having spent his 2009-10 campaign split between the AHL (Lake Erie Monsters) and ECHL (Elmira Jackals). The majority of his season was spent with the Monsters where he posted seven points (3g-4a) and 53 minutes in penalties in 62 games. Aspenlind also notched one goal and two penalty minutes in six games in Elmira.

The Salmon Kings open the 2010-11 regular season this Friday, October 15th in Idaho with a two-game set versus the defending National Conference champion Steelheads. Victoria returns home to open up their schedule at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre with a three-game set versus the Ontario Reign beginning Wednesday, October 27th.
